Bio
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you all! My name is Essie Gerald, affectionately know as Briana. At FDHS I am one of the marketing teachers in the CTAE department. I am the Head Varsity Cheerleading Coach and Junior Class Sponsor!
I was born and raised in South Carolina! Lived in Georgia briefly in second and third grade! Currently 30, own one small businesses and live life to the fullest!!
My signature line when meeting new athletes and new parents is, “I am not in the business of growing great athletes; I am in the business of growing amazing young adults”. This applies in the classroom, the court, the field, everywhere! I want to see you succeed in this life!
I live a life that not only God is proud of but one that I can use as an example for every kid that I encounter!! We all have passions and hobbies.. During this year, let's figure out how to turn those things into financial gains, so we can ALL live a life that we are proud of!

Education & Work
I graduated high school in 2010! I earned my bachelor's in psychology in 2014 and my master’s degree in Education this past year! All from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC.
I have been an educator for the last five years; starting out as a special education teacher, transitioning to English Language Arts and now excited to start my journey as one of the Business Education teachers at Douglass!
Being an owner of two small businesses myself has influenced my passion for preparing young adults for the real world; teaching them life lessons and showing them multiple ways to be successful in their futures! I plan to mentor and uplift my students as well as my athletes!
Family
I come from a pretty small family.. Growing up it was just me, my mom and my brother.. My grandparents were mom, dad, uncle. cousin and best friends any time I needed them! They are no longer with us, but I am fueled by their love and passion to keep going. I have two BEAUTIFUL godchildren and a loving boyfriend who treats me like a queen! A host of best friends, cousins and people who love me dearly!
